I am so saddened to hear of Gordy's passing.  He and I shared several classes during our time at Hialeah, and I will always remember him as an excellent athlete and a friendly guy who seemed to always have smile on his face.  My deepest sympathy and condolences go to his wife and family.

So sorry to hear this. I watched him in many baseball games and he was a great player and person. I think that I have a picture of Gordon and Pat Gispert from the 20th reunion. I will try to find it and post it.

Truly  "The Boys of Summer." This was taken during the summer of 1958 when we were 11 or 12 years old. We were all immortal back then! Gordy is on bottom row, second from the right. I was one of the pitchers...Gordy was our catcher. He made "all" pitchers look good. And he made all of our teams the best we could be. And his children and grandchildren should know their father and grandfather brought out the best in all of us!  Gordy will always be remembered as a great friend of his teammates and classmates.  Rest in Peace Gordy!

Me and Pat and Gordy went to elementary school junior high and Hialeah High together. We also played baseball together. He will surely be missed.   A great kind humble man.

Gordy was just one big smile all the time. He was a great baseball player at all ages and had many friends. He was a leader too. he played catcher most of the time and to be good at that position requires more than just being a good player. You have to be respected by your teamsmates.

Several of the comments speak of Gordy’s smile - that’s what I remember as well. He was a friend, classmate, amazing ball player, and most of all, a really great person. It certainly sounds like he had a great life and leaves many memories for his family and friends - thanks Pat Gispert for some highlights of his life. I have not been able to make any of the reunions but hope to in the coming year if there are any. It feels different for me when I listen to others talk about their high school days and memories in that I feel like for such a big class, more people knew more people as friends rather than just classmates. Thanks to all for my memories!

I guess the only way down from the mountain of grief is "gratitude" and all of us who were blessed by Gordy's friendship can admit that the gratitude of knowing him will always be greater than the grief we all feel. Pat Gispert, Ricky Delopez, and Gordy, made life a "hoot" for so many of us from elementary, junior high, and my brief time at Hialeah.

Gordy, we remain in "Gratitude" Dude. What a "Gift"!
