Paula Toms Durette
CHESAPEAKE-Paula Jean Durette, 59, of the 600 block of Sedgefield Court, went to be with the Lord on August 8, 2006 in Norfolk. A native of Rock Hill, SC, she was the daughter of the late Mary Constance Therrell Toms and Paul Smith Toms of Forest City, NC. A data entry clerk with Nationwide Insurance Company, she was a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church.
Besides her father, she is survived by two sons, John Paul Durette of Newberry, FL and Charles Richard Durette and his wife, Becky of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Jerry Linn Toms and his wife, Annette of Washington, NC; and Richard Byron Toms and his wife, Tammy of Chesapeake; and her stepmother, Evelyn Toms of Forest City, NC.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 3 p.m. in Deep Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Zack Deal officiating. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel on Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The body will then be sent to Padgett and King Mortuary, Forest City, NC where a second service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m.at the Alexander Baptist Church with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service. I'm so sorry to hear of Paula's passing. She lived on the street in front of me growing up and as children she and her brother Jerry were my playmates. Her mother was my first grade teacher, and I remember both of her parents fondly. Paula was a very sweet girl and I'll always remember our times together.

Paula was always a sweet girl. I think she lived on my street, or one over. My brother and I played with Paula and her brother Jerry. She still had that angelic face I remember so well. Sad to hear of her passing, though it has been a while.
