Michael Feduniak (Coach)

Michael Feduniak was born in Akron, Ohio on July 1st, 1920 and lived a full and vibrant 92 years of life. He was a Highly Decorated WW2 Pilot who earned two Distinguished Flying Crosses, a Purple Heart and many additional Military honors including a recommendation for a Congressional Medal of Honor. He was a member of the HUMP Pilots Association, the branch of the Air Corps which flew China, Burma, India Theatre. Michael is also in the Smithsonian National Museum Institutes Flight Section. 

He was a three athletic letterman player at Kent State University, lettering in football, baseball and basketball. Upon graduation he was invited to play with the Chicago Cubs, the Washington Senators, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Baseball Company (Indians). Michael played for the Boston Red Sox until he was drafted into the war. He was shot down and survived the jungles of India and earned the Highest Medal from the Chinese government given to an American pilot. 

Michael taught and coached with Miami-Dade County Public Schools at Hialeah High School for thirty two years and was instrumental in bringing the Aviation program to the school. He taught many non-military pilots (Commercial) in the U. S. how to fly and has had a lasting impact on their future in the aviation industry. Michael coached many famed athletes during his tenure with the school system. He was inducted to the Athletic Hall of Fame at Kent State University. Having traveled around the world three times, his experiences are those of which only some can dream. 

Among his greatest accomplishments are those of Father, Grandfather and Great-grandfather. Micheal is survived by his two daughters, Nancy Hinds (Rudy), Paula Swope (John), 5 Grandchildren: Angela O'Meara (Steffen Fletcher), Christina Castillo Anthony, Michael Castillo, Tracy Michelle Swope, Troy Swope, 3 Great-Grandchildren Tyler Devenere, Haleigh Stremanos, and Isabel Swope, Nephew Robert Feduniakand Maureen Feduniak, Joann Bitting and Rich Bitting. He is predeceased by his parents Anna and Theodore Feduniak and his brother William Feduniak. 


He will always be loved and missed by his countless friends and family. 

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 6th at 1PM at Stanfill Funeral Home.
