We lost a wonderful man in Hershal Meizius, but God gained a very special angel.  I will miss his  birthday wish this year.  Rest in peace, classmate.

Hershal was one of the dearest friends I ever had. We have spoken on the phone until only a couple of months ago, and although he told me of his challenges, he always lead me to believe that he was hopeful and that all was going to be ok. The last thing he told me was his happy peace and enjoyment of riding in his golf cart and sitting under a tree near his home and thinking he might get out to play golf again. I had no idea he was facing so much. That is the way he was; never wanted attention placed on him, or worry about him, but always being the best for those he loved. My heart is hurting so much seeing this today. He played the best tricks on me in high school and I have shared those funny and creative and genius events with my friends all over the country and they never failed to think he was just the best at getting the best of me! Truly, he was one of a kind, the best of the best. I am sad to know I will never laugh with him again, but  I know God is in for a lot of fun with Hershal by his side.

Losing a dear friend is always painful.........no matter how much time has passed....or how much our lives have taken separate paths. I will always cherish the great times we shared in band, both in Symphonic Band and in TK's (before I got kicked out for poor grades).   He lived a wholesome life and always relished it.  I will truly miss his cheerful  birthday greetings..........R.I.P. my friend..........

Remember talking to Hershal during the banquet at the reunion held at Don Shula's Resort.  Very pleasant man, not sure if he talked about his health or not?

Sometimes, it's so hard to put into words your  feelings when you receive news like this. Though we had not seen each other since the 70s, we kept in touch sporadically. Hershal (I never called him Herb, and he was ok with that, lol) was such a good friend to me throughout high school. We had more fun than we should have been allowed...he was one of the funniest people I have ever known. My memories of our TK trips and Hershal's antics are as vivid today as ever...I cherish every one of them. I was always so proud of his service in law enforcement, and his contributions will live on through those he mentored. I know he was wrapped in God's arms and carried to his place in Heaven, where he is "living" the wonderful life he earned while on this earth. My condolences to the family he loved more than anything.
